John Sherman Cooper represented Kentucky in the U.S. Senate from 1956-1973. He previously served two separate periods in the U.S. Senate, on the Kentucky Circuit Courts, as Judge of Pulaski County, and in the Kentucky State House of Representatives. He identified as a Republican. He died in 1991.
