Matthew Martínez represented California’s 31st Congressional District (previously the 30th Congressional District) from 1982-2001. He previously served in the California State Assembly, as Mayor of Monterey Park, and on the Monterey Park City Council. He identified as a Republican but identified as a Democrat before 2000 and as a Republican before 1974. He died in 2011.
