Mills Godwin served as Governor of Virginia from 1974-1978. He previously served a separate period as Governor of Virginia, as Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, in the Virginia State Senate, and in the Virginia State House of Delegates. He identified as a Republican but identified as a Democrat before 1973. He died in 1999.
