Paul Simon represented Illinois in the U.S. Senate from 1985-1997. He previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives, as Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, in the Illinois State Senate, and in the Illinois State House of Representatives. He identified as a Democrat. He died in 2003.
